Every human has the urge to express themselves. You sing, dance, and paint to communicate feelings, emotions, and thoughts with other people. Fashion has also been a medium of creative self-expression since time immemorial.

Textile design
It essentially focuses on the structure and fabric appearance while following the productive process by which any thread interwoven can develop a functional textile. Textile design involves a material interface to produce specific elementary characteristics like knots, embellishments, patterns, weaves, etc. It is the nature of the fabric that decides what apparel it can design.
Jewellery design
It involves the creative manipulation of various precious metals like gold, silver, gems, etc. This fashion design course can open doors to positions like a gemologist, jewellery designer, brand manager, production manager, etc., at various leading MNCs in India and internationally. It aims at various technical aspects, like gemology, ergonomics, jewellery rendering, etc.
Fashion merchandising
Such design courses revolve around exploring strategic analytic insights, marketing and management, and maximising a design’s sales profit. It generally involves planning and promoting sales by marketing the design products concerning the audience’s demand. Fashion merchandising involves versatility in product merchandising, visual merchandising, retail merchandising, digital merchandising, etc.
Pattern making
Also called technical designing, it involves developing flat and creatively draped patterns. Pattern-making differs from a textile design by including craft and sketched items. The final product, in this case, is a garment or a drafted fabric designed according to human measurement.
Several fashion schools offer pattern-making courses to produce designers working along cloning existing clothes, drafting patterns, deconstructing fabrics, draping on the stand, etc.
Design and technology
These courses in design include a technical touch in design through layouts, accessories, and patterns. They let you skillfully generate computer-aided designs and draft projections of various designs. Along with technical skills, it also focuses on garment construction, pattern-building graphic design, fashion illustration, etc.
Levels
There are different levels of communication design courses, including Bachelor, Master, Diploma, and Certificate. After completing senior secondary school, you can pursue a Bachelor’s course, opening doors to a basic understanding of the field. Similarly, a Master’s degree equips you with the knowledge to work for renowned labels internationally and develop the management skills to start their fashion labels.
A diploma in fashion design is shorter than a regular course. It provides all the necessary knowledge and training involving domains like the latest designing techniques, various ways of execution, selection of materials, and industry exposure, gained through a professional degree.
